  • Historic Kotor & Budva-Kilims Story

Stroll the atmospheric streets in Budva’s medieval Old Town and then visit a shop that specializes in kilims, a style of woolen carpet first produced thousands of years ago.

After departing from the pier, you will enjoy a leisurely drive through the countryside to Budva, one of the oldest settlements in the Balkans. While meandering through the medieval Old Town (known as Stari Grad), you can’t help but be struck by the gorgeous setting. English poet Lord Bryon described it as “the most beautiful meeting of land and sea.”

As you will discover during the guided tour and free time that follows, Budva is still remarkable, especially its idyllic setting on an island-dotted bay. You can expect to see historical churches, the 15th-century ramparts and charming squares lined with boutiques.

Continuing on into the Grbalj plain between Budva and Kotor, you will visit a shop that sells kilim carpets. While “kilim” is a word of Turkish origin, this style of flat-weave carpet is produced in many countries, including Montenegro. The weaving technique favors diagonal and geometrical patterns with wool being the preferred material because of its durability.

Following a presentation on how kilim carpets are produced, you might purchase one. Each carpet comes with a certificate of origin and can be shipped anywhere in the world.

Next you will enjoy a guided tour of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site hailed for its architectural significance.

ご注意:This tour includes approximately 3.5 hours of moderate walking. It is not recommended for guests who utilize a wheelchair. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested.

Begin with a scenic drive to Budva, considered one of the oldest settlements in the Balkans. The legend, confirmed by Greek mythology, says that Budva was established by Cadmo, the son of the Phoenician King Agenon. He was expelled from Thebes and arrived by an ox-drawn cart in this area where he founded the settlement of Budva. The charming old town of Budva lies on a small island that was linked to the mainland by a sandbar and in time, turned into a peninsula. It is surrounded by ramparts originating from the 15th century, including a medieval fortification system with city gates, defense walls and towers. Inside the walls, you will find a combination of narrow streets and quaint squares filled with valuable monuments of different Mediterranean cultures that marked the town's development. Today, Budva is a center of tourism and a delightful city that is home to theater, festivals and celebrations. Enjoy free time on your own before traveling back to Kotor.

Arriving in Kotor, you will be given a guided tour of the city and allowed free time to do some shopping or explore on your own before returning to the ship.

  • Town of Kotor & Bay of Kotor Heritage

A lovely ride by motor coach takes you to seaside Perast, which was once under Venetian control for nearly 400 years. The serene, medieval town's architecture reflects its rich maritime history and proud past, especially the ornate Church of Sveti Nikola, which was built between the 15th and 17th centuries.

After some free time to explore further, it's on to Gospa Islet, which you'll reach by boat. According to legend, seamen created this small man-made island by dropping a rock into Kotor Bay after each successful voyage. The church here is fittingly called Our Lady of the Rocks, and dozens of baroque paintings by a local 17th century artist adorn its walls. After sailing back to shore, you'll return to Kotor for a fascinating, guided walking tour that starts in the medieval Old Town, which is crisscrossed with narrow streets and squares. After visiting Kotor's Cathedral of St. Triphon, a beautiful Romanesque basilica, you're free to shop and enjoy the enchanting setting.

  • Boka Bay Catamaran Sail and Beach Break

Cruise lovely Boka Bay in a luxury catamaran, passing landmarks such as Our Lady of the Rocks church on the way to an exclusive beach club, where you will relax for several hours.

After departing from the pier in a sleek catamaran, you will soon be sailing across the heart of Boka Bay. The surrounding landscape is so wild and the cliffs so precipitous that the bay is often referred to as the southernmost fjord in Europe. It’s that stunningly beautiful.

In time, the ancient village of Perast will come into view. Like Kotor, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with extraordinary Venetian-style architecture and abundant Catholic churches. One of the most beautiful churches is Our Lady of the Rocks, which sits on a tiny island in the bay. As you circumnavigate the island, you can expect to hear the legend of how it was formed—supposedly by sailors who dropped rocks in the same spot every time they sailed by in honor of the image of the Virgin Mary being seen there. Full lunch is not included but a light snack will be served aboard the catamaran.

Then it’s on to the exclusive Movida Beach Club, where you will while away the next few hours on Solila Beach. You might stroll along the sea, take a refreshing swim in the typically calm waters and relax in a lounge chair under the shade of an umbrella. The scenery is just as impressive as the beach, and you will have plenty of time to soak it in before boarding a coach and driving back to the pier.

ご注意:This tour includes limited walking, primarily at the guests’ discretion during the stop at Movida Beach Club. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with mobility concerns are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of ability as moving about the catamaran could be challenging. Swimwear worn under clothing for those who wish to swim; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a towel from the ship; and flat, comfortable shoes with a non-slip sole are recommended. Those who participate in any water activities do so at their own risk and responsibility.

The intention of your peloid treatment is to leave you relaxed and rejuvenated.

Afterwards, you will ease into the warm mineral-rich waters of a pearl bath. This treatment takes its name from the air bubbles in the water that wrap the body like a string of pearls and provide a soothing micro-massage. The hydro massage should relax you even further, increase your circulation and relieve any residual stress that you may feel. When combined with the peloid treatment, the results can be wonderfully satisfying.

  • Panoramic Montenegro

Drive through the mountains into Montenegro's inspiring countryside, stopping along the way for a snack of local delicacies.

Depart from the pier and begin driving south from the walled city of Kotor, following an extraordinarily serpentine road into the mountainous countryside. The terrain is so unusual and strikingly beautiful that when Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw visited, he famously quipped from the top of nearby Mount Lovcen, "am I in paradise or on the moon?"

Ascending the slopes of this revered mountain, you will come upon the village of Njegusi. Perched more than a half mile above the nearby sea, the village affords absolutely phenomenal views. Despite its natural beauty, this region is no less famous for its distinct smoked ham and flavorful cheeses, which you might sample during a snack break here.

Leaving Njegusi behind, you'll follow another picturesque road that hugs the edge of a national park, then drive through Cetinje, once the royal capital of Montenegro. Lying in a green bowl at the foot of Mount Lovcen, Cetinje was founded in the 15th century and soon became the country's religious center.

  • Classical Concert in Prcanj and Kotor

Sail to the glorious Our Lady’s Temple in nearby Prcanj for a classical concert and then return to Kotor for an enlightening walking tour through the medieval walled city.

After embarking a boat at the pier, you will enjoy a brief but picturesque cruise along the fjord-like Bay of Kotor to the town of Prcanj. Steeped in maritime history and nestled at the foot of a mountain, Prcanj is exceptionally atmospheric, especially Our Lady’s Temple, one of the town’s dominant churches.

Built in the Baroque style over the course of 120 years, Our Lady’s Temple opened in 1909. As you will see, the lengthy construction of the oversized stone church was well worth the wait. Corinthian and Doric columns adorn the façade, the entrance features a glorious double staircase, and the two, rare gilded altars are considered masterworks.

Our Lady’s Temple provides a wonderful setting for the classical concert that will follow. You can expect a stirring performance of music selections that reflect Montenegro’s cultural influences.

Then after a traditional seafood lunch in Prcanj, you will cruise back to Kotor for a leisurely walking tour within the well-preserved walled city. • The Bay of Kotor Tuk-Tuk Tour

Ride a motorized tuk-tuk around a spectacularly scenic peninsula that juts into the Bay of Kotor, stopping at the most dramatic points for photos and exploration on your own.

After departing from the pier, you will follow a coastal road along the gorgeous Bay of Kotor, first passing through the fishing village of Muo. You will travel by tuk-tuk, an open-air covered vehicle originally named for the sound of its engine. Modern engines are noticeably quieter, and the tuk-tuk is now one of the most desirable ways to get around.

Upon arriving in Prcanj, you will pause for photos of Our Lady’s Temple. Built in the Baroque style over the course of 120 years, the church finally opened in 1909. The lengthy construction was worth the wait. Corinthian and Doric columns adorn the façade, the entry features a glorious double staircase, and the two gilded altars are considered masterworks.

Continuing on to an elevated vantage point overlooking the Verige Strait, you will pause again for photos. The church that will be visible on the teeny island in the strait is Our Lady of the Rocks, which dates to 1722. It’s now used primarily as a Catholic cultural center.

  • Skadar Lake Cruise and Wine Tasting

Cruise the shores of Skadar Lake, one of Europe’s largest bird habitats, and then savor a sampling of local wines at the Kopitovic family winery.

After departing from the pier, you will delight in a picturesque drive inland toward the village of Virpazar, stopping along the way for photos of shimmering Skadar Lake. For an even closer view of the lake, which straddles the borders of Albania and Montenegro, you will board a ferry and cruise the naturally beautiful shoreline, which is all protected parkland.

Skadar is the largest lake in the Balkans and attracts huge numbers of birds, the vast majority migratory, so you can expect to see a great variety of avian species. There may be little white egrets, spoonbills and especially cormorants, as the pristine lake supports one of the world’s most important cormorant colonies. Skadar Lake is also home to a colony of endangered Dalmatian pelicans, one of the world’s largest bird species.

Following the cruise, you will drive to the Kopitovic private residence in the village of Donji Brceli for a wine tasting. The family has lived here since the 15th century and has produced wine and brandy throughout the centuries, primarily from indigenous vranac grapes. Vranan typically produces powerful, robust wines.

The selection of Kopitovic wines for your tasting may include reds such as sojak and poskok. Both go well with local specialties such as smoked ham, fried sausage, olives and tomato-topped bruschetta. Following the tasting, you will return to the pier.
