  • Discover Ljubljana, one of Europe’s greenest and smallest capitals, on an enlightening walking tour through downtown, with a visit to Ljubljana Castle and by exploring the surrounding countryside and gorgeous Lake Bled.

Note: This program begins in Ljubljana, Slovenia and ends in Trieste, Italy where guests will embark the ship. Guests will need to fly into the Ljubljana Jože Pucnik Airport (LJU)for the start of the program.

    DAY 1

After arriving at the Ljubljana Airport (LJU), you will be met outside Customs and transferred to your hotel with the assistance of an English-speaking representative. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure, so you may want to consult with the hotel’s hospitality desk for recommendations.

Check-in at your hotel is 3:00p.m. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available sooner, this cannot be guaranteed. Meals will be on your own today.

    DAY 2

Following breakfast in the hotel, you will meet the guide in the lobby and begin a comprehensive walking tour of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. Although relatively small for a capital city, Ljubljana is full of attractions, many of which you will see while meandering through the historical downtown. Highlights include the central Farmers Market, Town Hall, Ljubljana Cathedral, Three Bridges, National Library and Preseren Square.

In time, you will ride the funicular to Ljubljana Castle with the English-speaking guide. Looming over the city for about 900 years, the castle offers spectacular views. You may also browse the castle’s Slovenian history exhibition and unusual puppet museum.

After returning to the hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Note: The walking tour of Ljubljana is rated as an easy walk, especially in the pedestrian zone of the city. The city center is small, and the distances covered are small. The sightseeing tour is accessible by wheelchair. The tour also includes the funicular ride to the castle hill and the visit to Ljubljana castle. The funicular is accessible and the castle is partly accessible.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will transfer to Lake Bled, an absolutely gorgeous setting in the Julian Alps. The building that you will see rising above the lake’s sole island is the Assumption of Mary Church.

Bled Castle sits atop a precipice above the lake. While meandering through the medieval castle during free time, you may see its Gothic chapel, wine cellar, replica Gutenberg wooden press and museum, where a 6th-century peacock brooch is one of the many artifacts on display.

Once you return to the hotel, the remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 4

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, transfer to Postojna Cave, the second-largest cave system in Slovenia. You will ride through the cave on a small railway that has been operating for nearly 150 years. Later, discover the flavors of Ljubljana at lunch.

Afterward, you will transfer to the port of Trieste for embarkation.

Note: Bled Castle and Postojna Caves are accessible for wheelchairs as long as there is someone to push the wheelchair. There is a slight ramp to enter the castle.

  • Enjoy the unique opportunity to visit two of the most precious and sacred sites which lie in the most beautiful and unspoiled parts of Northern Greece.

NOTE: This is an extensive 4-day program that covers a lot of ground both on foot and by luxury coach. There is a lot of driving involved. This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties due to the amount of walking, steps and uneven ground.

    DAY 1

Upon disembarkation from your ship, board your coach for the scenic drive to Delphi. This beautiful drive into the land of central Greece will bring you to the magnificent site of Delphi.

Delphi was considered by the ancients to be the physical and spiritual centers of the earth. This shrine of Apollo set nearly 2.000 feet up on the slopes of Mount Parnassus. Here was the most respected oracle of antiquity. Even the most intelligent men, who lived during the brilliant civilization of Athens, believed implicitly in the responses of the god. These were given by the inspired priestess, the Pythia, and were interpreted, usually with an ambiguous touch, by the priests. Delphi grew fabulously rich with offerings, and though they have almost all disappeared now, you can admire the ruins and try to picture it as it was during its 1.000 prestigious years.

Walk up the Sacred Way past the beautiful small Treasuries to the Temple of Apollo, location of the oracle; continue to the Museum with its superb collection of votive offerings and statues, including the world-famous Charioteer. A traditional country lunch will be offered at the nearby village of Arachova.

Following lunch, you will board your coach and commence the drive to the town of Kalambaka. Kalamaba is the picturesque town that sits at the foot of Meteora. After checking in to the hotel, dinner will be served, and the evening will be at your leisure.

Overnight at the Divani Meteora Hotel or similar hotel

    DAY 2

After breakfast, you will check-out of the hotel and board your coach for the visit of the Meteora Monasteries. Admire the extraordinary rocks of Meteora which were formed as a result of the force of the nature and they appear to be suspended in the sky, crested with the celebrated monasteries. Today only six monasteries are inhabited, two of which have become nunneries. You are invited to delve into two of these remarkable phenomena, seemingly floating in the sky and serving as an example of the post-Byzantine era.

NOTE: Scheduled visits are for the Monastery of the Great Meteoron “Megalo Meteoro” and The Nunnery of St. Stefanos “Agiou Stefanou”. Should one be closed it will be substituted with Moni Varlaam.

Steps vary from one to the other - The Monastery of the Great Meteoron has approximately 200 steps, St.Stefanos Monastery has approximately 10 steps and Moni Varlaam has approximately 80 steps. Coaches are able to drop off guests approximately 300- 500 feet from each Monastery.

After the visit of the Monasteries, you will commence your drive to Athens. A lunch stop will be made along the way. Arriving in Athens, you will proceed directly to your hotel for check-in.

In the evening you will be met by your guide and you will transfer to the picturesque Mikrolimano area in Piraeus where you will dine at Varoulko Restaurant. Lefteris Lazarou, Greece’s top-awarded Michelin Star Chef, created the restaurant’s menu so you will not be disappointed in this fantastic dining experience.

Overnight at the Divani Caravel Hotel or similar hotel.

    DAY 3

Following breakfast at your hotel, begin your day with a visit to the famous site of the Acropolis. En route you will drive by Constitution Square, the House of Parliament, the Neo-Classical style university buildings, the Royal Palace and the Old Olympic Stadium of Athens.

Arriving at the foot of the Acropolis, one of the most photographed ancient monuments in the world, you will set off with your group on a walking tour to the top. Your guide will stop along the way to brief you on its history. Once you get to the top you will have some free time to explore and take photographs. Admire the ancient temples of Athena Nike and the towering Parthenon, as well as the gorgeous view of the city of Athens below.

Note: Expect high temperatures in the summer months and heavy crowds. There are upwards of 100 or more un-even steps to get to the top of the monument. There is a handrail in some spots but not all. Those not wishing to venture to the top can remain at the bottom and wait for the group to return. At the top the ground is uneven. Large bags are not permitted here and will need to be left on the tour bus.

Next you will visit the breathtaking Acropolis Museum – an impressive building that was completed and opened in 2009 and has an exhibition space of more than 14,000 square meters. It houses every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. It also lies over the ruins of a part of Roman and early Byzantine Athens.

Following your visit of the museum, take a stroll with your group through the enchanting, traditional streets of Plaka, the colorful old quarter of Athens, rich in neoclassical, ancient monuments and Byzantine Churches. Here in the Plaka, you will have a traditional Greek lunch before returning to your hotel where you will have some free time. The remainder of the day is at your leisure and dinner is on your own.

  • Visit the most archaeologically important sites in and around Athens, including the Acropolis, the Temple of Poseidon and Ancient Corinth, with a stop at the extraordinary manmade Corinth Canal as well.

PLEASE NOTE: This is an extensive 4-day program that covers a lot of ground by luxury coach. There is a lot of driving involved but guests will have a unique opportunity to visit two of the most precious and sacred sites in a beautiful and unspoiled part of Northern Greece. Due to the amount of walking over uneven ground and steps at the various ancient sites, this program is not suitable for guests who utilize a wheelchair, walker, cane or who have other mobility restrictions.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Piraeus, Greece, meet your guide and set off to Athens for a guided visit to the Acropolis site. You will pass by landmarks such as Constitution Square, the Houses of Parliament, the Neoclassical-style university buildings, the Royal Palace and the Old Olympic Stadium of Athens. The stadium is built entirely of marble and offers a great view of the Acropolis in the distance. The highlight is when you arrive at the foot of the magnificent Acropolis, one of the most famous and photographed ancient monuments in the world.

During the walking tour, the guide describes the history. Once you get to the top, you will have some free time to wander round and admire the ancient temples of Athena Nike and the towering Parthenon.

Afterwards, you will visit the breathtaking Acropolis Museum, whose collection of artifacts was excavated from the Acropolis. After browsing the museum, you will proceed to your hotel to check-in.

Note: Expect high temperatures in the summer months and heavy crowds. There are upwards of 100 or more un-even steps to get to the top of the monument. There is handrail in some spots but not everywhere. Those not wishing to venture to the top can remain at the bottom and wait for the group to return. The ground at the top is uneven. Large bags are not permitted here and must be left on the tour bus.

The remainder of the day is at your leisure with meals on your own.

    DAY 2

After breakfast you will depart your hotel for a guided visit of the Temple of Poseidon. Enjoy a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road, which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf and passes through the beautiful suburbs of Glyfada, Kavouri, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, and Lagonissi.

At Cape Sounion you will visit the 5th century BC Temple of Poseidon, standing some 200 feet above the sea at the edge of a cliff. It is one of the most breathtaking and deeply moving sights in all of Greece. This is the place where the ancient Greeks worshipped their mighty god of the seas, Poseidon.

Lunch will be served in a traditional rustic taverna located in the small town of Kalyvia. In this eatery, you will enjoy truly traditional Greek cuisine.

In the evening, you will take a stroll through the enchanting historical area of Athens with its traditional streets, restaurants, shops and colorful old quarter, where ancient monuments and Byzantine churches are abundant. In the Plaka neighborhood, you will enjoy a traditional Greek dinner before walking back to your hotel.

    DAY 3

After an American breakfast, you will board the coach and head to the Isthmus of Corinth to view the famous Corinth Canal, which is four miles long, 70 feet wide and has sloping sides 170 feet high. It connects the Ionian and Aegean seas to provide a maritime short cut. Note: this program does not include a transit of the canal.

Your next stop will be at Ancient Corinth. The ruins that lie in this area are a surprising mix of a 6th-century BC Greek city and a 44 BC Roman city -- the latter was built after Julius Caesar placed a colony on this desolate site. You will see the ruins and excavations of both, including where the Christian Basilica, the starting lines of a Greek racetrack, a sacred spring with its bronze lion's-head spouts, and the elaborate Roman fountain of Peirene were located.

After lunch you will visit the somber and mighty ruins of ancient Mycenae -- vestiges of a kingdom that, for 400 years, was the most powerful in all of Greece. Enter the Citadel of Mycenae on foot, approaching it through the famous Lion Gate. Inside are the shaft graves discovered by Schliemann. You will also visit the Beehive Tomb, known sometimes as the Tomb of Agamemnon, the Greek Commander-in-Chief during the Trojan War.

A short drive will bring you to the first capital of modern-day Greece after the war of Independence. Nafplion is now regarded as one of the most romantic destinations in Greece, and you will walk through its Venetian and neoclassical buildings, old neighborhoods and large squares. You will see the famous Bourtzi protecting the entrance to the harbor and Akronafplia and Palamidi castles, which add a sense of drama to this stunning seaport town.

    DAY 4

After your breakfast and check out, transfer to the Athens airport for your flight home. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage will be available at the hotel until your transfer time.

  • Discover the wonders of antiquity on the Peloponnese peninsula by exploring archaeological sites in Epidaurus, Mycenae and Corinth, and experience the joys of daily life in Nafplion.

    Important Note:

There is a large number of steps and uneven walking paths in Epidaurus, Palamidi and at the site of Mycenae.

Nafplion’s old town consists of cobblestoned streets. Guests need to be sure footed, can negotiate uneven ground, steps and cobblestones. Large bags are not allowed inside the Archaeological Sites.

    DAY 1

Disembark the ship in Piraeus, meet your guide and begin the scenic drive to Epidaurus.

Drive through picturesque and twisting roads, passing some typically Greek country villages on the way. Arrive in Epidaurus, which is situated on the cool slopes of a beautifully wooded valley and is known for its stunning Ancient Theater.

One of the most important sanctuaries in the ancient world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Epidaurus was dedicated to the God of Medicine, Asklepios. Explore the Archaeological wonders surrounding the sanctuary, including the Temple of Asklepios and the Tholos of Epidaurus. Discover the secrets of ancient medicine and the sanctuary’s significance in the healing practices of the time.

The world-famous Theater of Epidaurus, built in the 4th century BC, is a marvel of harmony and acoustics and the best-preserved ancient theater in Greece. Built out of limestone, it seats 12,000 spectators. Attending the performances of ancient drama during the summer season is an unforgettable experience.

After your guided tour at the theater, you will have free time for a stroll, take photographs, or purchase refreshments at an area café.

Continue your journey to Nafplion, one of Greece's prettiest towns. The narrow streets of the old town are filled with elegant Venetian houses and gracious, neoclassical mansions. The towering Palamidi Fortress dominates the setting.

After lunch at a local restaurant, you’ll walk around the town with your guide. Marvel at the beautiful neoclassical buildings lining the port, while walking to Kapodistriou Square and Park, dedicated to the memory of the first governor of Greece. In the park, with beloved Palamidi in the background, is also the statue of Kolokotronis, known as the Grand Old Man of the Morea, as he was the leader of the Greeks during the War of Independence.

Continuing through the back streets not normally seen by tourists, you will come upon the Old Catholic Church and the 1702 Church of Agios Spyridon. The worry beads you see everywhere in Greece have a museum of their own in Nafplion; you will have a short visit in the Museum and learn more of their origin.

Next, you will proceed through the popular Syntagma Square (Constitution Square), to visit the spectacular display of folk costumes and traditional textile-producing techniques at the Popular Art Museum, winner of the 1981 European Museum of the year.

After learning of the ways of past-Greeks, the tour proceeds on to the Wine Shop, where you will enjoy a taste of a more-modern Greek life and sample the favourite spirit of the Greeks: ouzo. The owner is regarded as a specialist of Greek wines.

You will then visit the fabulous Venetian fortress of Palamidi with its splendid views over the hill of Argonauplia, the town of Nafplion and the Bourtzi offshore. The fortress is very well-preserved and this great mass of masonry, with walls and fortifications that made it impregnable, broods menacingly over the town.

As you ascend the fortress, navigating through its formidable bastions and fortified wall, you will be captivated by the strategic design that once defended against invaders. Discover the history of Palamidi, built in the 18th century by the Venetians, and later played a significant role in the Greek War of Independence.

After your visit is completed, you will proceed at your hotel, where you will have some time for relaxation before going out for dinner, to a local restaurant for traditional Greek tastes.

Your evening will end at your hotel for an overnight.

    DAY 2

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and board your coach for another captivating expedition - from the charming town of Nafplion to the mythical realms of Mycenae, unravelling the threads of ancient history and many archaeological wonders.

You will enjoy a drive through the picturesque countryside, olive groves and vineyards, until you reach the legendary Archaeological Site of Mycenae, a city steeped in mythology and history. Schlieman, a German archaeologist who was obsessed with finding the grave of King Agamemnon, carried out the first in-depth excavations here in 1876. His diligent work exposed the famous Lions Gate, the entrance to the city, which contains the shaft burial graves of some ancient nobles.

A short distance away is the Beehive Tomb, so named due to its unusual shape. Wander around the ancient ruins, surrounded by the imposing Cyclopean Walls, marveling at the engineering prowess of the Mycenean civilization. You can imagine the city’s former glory, as you hear the guide’s narration about Agamemnon and the Trojan War.

Next, visit one of the most famous wineries in Greece, located in Nemea area; Nemea is possibly Greece’s most important red wine appellation. The mountains and valleys surrounding the small town of Nemea have been producing wine since the 5th century BC, mostly from the native “Agiorgitiko” grape.

Nowadays a wide range of styles are made from the grape variety, from rich, age-worthy dry wines to lighter and sweeter examples. Sited among lush vineyards, the winery welcomes you to its ultramodern winemaking facility foiled by elegant Greek architecture. Your visit includes an opportunity to see the winery and the machinery, and to learn the philosophy behind modern winemaking. Get the chance to indulge in a curated wine tasting, sampling a selection of the winery’s finest wines, while you enjoy lunch served at the winery premises.

From the winery, set forth to Ancient Corinth, a city steeped in mythology and historical significance.

St. Paul lived and preached in the ancient town of Corinth, for two years. In ancient times, Corinth was amongst the richest cities, and this is quite evident by its remains, including the huge Agora Market Place and Apollo's Temple. Traverse the Archaeological site, where the remnants of the Temple and the imposing Acrocorinth stand as testaments to Corinth’ once-great prominence. You will learn stories about commerce, culture and the diversity that define this thriving city.

Once your visit is completed, you will head back to the port of Piraeus, making a short photo stop at the famous Corinth Canal, a feat of human ingenuity that connects the Aegean Sea to the Ionian Sea. Marvel at the steep cliffs that flank the canal and capture the perfect snapshot of the surroundings.

    Expected Weather:

The temperature reaches around 19? / 62°F during the daytime in October, falling away to 14?/ 57.2°F at night.

    What to Bring:

Weather in October can be variable, so layered clothing is ideal. Include lightweight, breathable items that can be easily added or removed. A light, waterproof jacket is suggested for unexpected rain showers. Durable, comfortable walking or hiking shoes with good grip for navigating different terrains, such as cobblestones and natural paths. A hat for sun protection and sunglasses for bright days.

    Local Currency:

    Euro

Please note that USD are not widely accepted in Croatia. However, currency exchange offices are readily available for your convenience.

    Electricity

The electric energy system in Croatia is the same as in the rest of Europe. All installations emit an alternating current of 220V/50Hz, and the sockets used are type F (so-called “Schuko” sockets). We recommend bringing your own universal travel adaptor for electric devices.

    Documents and Visa Requirements:

A passport that is valid at least 6 months after travel is required. It is mandatory for all participants to carry their valid passport throughout the duration of the tour to ensure smooth border crossings.

Please check with your local embassy for any visa requirements for your nationality for entry to Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Montenegro.

If traveling internationally, the countries you are connecting through may have different document requirements and as such we encourage you to visit the government and airport websites of every country you will be traveling to throughout the journey to familiarize yourself with their requirements.
