Before the first sunrise at sea and before the first step ashore in a new destination, there is rest. To us, that moment matters as much as any other part of the guest experience. And aboard Seven Seas Prestige's most distinguished suites, that philosophy has led to a partnership with one of Italy’s most revered sleep innovators: Flou.
For more than four decades, the Italian company has been dedicated to perfecting the art of rest. Founded by Rosario Messina, Flou built its reputation on a simple but profound idea.
“The bed is not simply a functional object,” explains Cristiana Messina, who now leads the company alongside her siblings. “It is the place where we create our families, regenerate ourselves, dream, and build our future.”
That belief still guides the company today.
When Flou was founded, the idea that sleep was essential to wellbeing was not yet widely discussed. Today, science confirms what Messina understood instinctively that restorative sleep is fundamental to physical health, mental clarity and emotional balance.
Cristiana and her siblings see it as their responsibility to continue that philosophy while evolving it for modern life.
“As the second generation, we feel the responsibility to preserve this vision,” she said. “Quality, comfort and meticulous craftsmanship remain at the center of everything we do, but today we also integrate innovation, research into materials and an ever-growing attention to people’s wellbeing.”
For Flou, a bed is never just a piece of furniture. It is part of a complete sleep system designed to support deep, regenerative rest.
Through decades of experience creating beds for millions of people, the company has identified what it calls different “sleep types.”Each system is designed to accommodate these differences through personalized ergonomics, breathable materials and layered comfort.
A properly designed sleep environment, Cristiana explains, works in harmony. “A good base, a mattress suited to posture, a topper for comfort, a pillow that properly supports the head, and bed linens that maintain the ideal temperature. Together they create the conditions for truly restorative sleep.”
This philosophy becomes especially important when designing the Skyview Regent Suite, the largest all-inclusive ultra-luxury cruise ship suite ever built.
Nearly 9,000 square feet of living space demanded a sleep experience unlike anything else at sea.
“When you’re creating the most luxurious suite to ever sail the ocean, every detail matters,” said Franco Semeraro, Chief Experience Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
That search for perfection led him to Flou’s Italian headquarters.
“For decades, Flou has been perfecting their craft right here in Italy,” Franco said. “What strikes me isn’t just their heritage, it’s also how they’ve never compromised on their founding principles.”
For the Skyview Regent Suite, Flou developed a tailor-made version of its Leonardo sleep system, created exclusively for Regent.
At its core is a carefully engineered base and mattress combination designed to provide an ideal balance between support and softness. The mattress itself contains more than 10,000 responsive springs, designed to adapt to each guest’s body and sleeping position.
Above it, luxurious padding and a plush topper create what Flou calls a “cocooning” effect, which is the enveloping comfort guests feel the moment they sink into bed.
“We recognize it in the satisfied sigh of someone who lies down in one of our beds,” Cristiana said.
To elevate the experience even further, the mattress incorporates silver fibers, a material chosen not only for its refined appearance but also for its natural antibacterial properties.
The result is the Leonardo Silver system, handmade through a meticulous artisanal process and embroidered specifically for Regent.
Each one is crafted in Italy by expert hands, where every layer, stitch and detail reflects generations of craftsmanship.
For Cristiana, the partnership between Flou and Regent felt natural from the beginning.
Both brands share a similar philosophy: honoring tradition while continuously pursuing new forms of excellence.
