You’ll first see it from a relaxing lake cruise, then by guided tour as you enter this truly spectacular royal residence, topped with more decorative towers and turrets than even the most audacious French chateau. Inside this museum-like former residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg wait many insights into the life of Pomeranian royalty – and it wasn’t modest. Intricate wood carvings, fine silk wallpapers and oil-painted ancestral portraits are everywhere. While dating back only to the mid-1800s, Schloss Schwerin evokes a time that is far older, and a fantasy style that is the ultimate in Baroque-era splendor. Your castle tour completed, take some free time in Schwerin city center before the return to Rostock pier.
