  • Reflect at the sobering Holocaust Museum in Berlin, one of its newest landmarks.

説明

Explore the palaces of Potsdam and key landmarks in Berlin, including its Charlottenburg Palace, which was restored to its original glory following World War II. Sanssouci is one of the highlights within the ensemble of royal palaces and parks in Potsdam that UNESCO has declared a World Heritage site. Frederick the Great built the opulent palace—the so-called Prussian Versailles—in the 1740s as a summer estate. You will also visit Cecilienhof, another spectacular palace included in Potsdam’s World Heritage designation. It became famous for the 1945 meeting that Truman, Churchill and Stalin held there to discuss the future of postwar Europe. Following lunch on your own in Potsdam’s historical Dutch Quarter, you will view Berlin’s icons, including remnants of the Berlin Wall, its famed Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag parliament building. In contrast, the Holocaust Memorial, which opened in 2005, is a place of contemplation and remembrance and quite unusual in its design.

Helpful Hints

• Dress in weather-appropriate clothing. • Wear flat comfortable walking shoes.
  • Travel time to and from Berlin is about three hours each way. An escort will travel with you. This tour includes about 1½ hours on flat, as well as stone, gravel and cobbled surfaces with some inclines and steps. Additional walking and the level of exertion during free time are at guests’ discretion. This tour is not recommended for guests with mobility concerns. While not recommended, this tour is available to wheelchair guests who have a collapsible wheelchair and are able to make their own way on and off transportation. Guests must be self-sufficient or if assistance is required, they should travel with a companion who can provide it. Bring euros, as not all shops accept U.S. currency or credit cards. Most shops are closed on Sundays. The Cecilienhof Palace is closed on Mondays, so guests will visit the Neue Palais instead.
