Admire the must-see attractions downtown, including the Little Mermaid statue, which is estimated to be photographed more than 5 million times a year. After snapping your own picture of this iconic bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen’s 1837 fairytale character, you will head to Amalienborg Palace for a photo opportunity at the queen’s winter residence. If the flag is raised, it signals that she is present. Andersen lived much of his life in Nyhavn, a collection of 17th-century buildings along the canal. While meandering past the colorful townhouses, you will likely see sailboats moored along the waterfront and crowds of people relaxing at the outdoor cafés. During the tour of Strøget, one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe, the guide will describe fascinating aspects about the surrounding architectural treasures. They include the Round Tower, the National Cathedral of Denmark and the glorious city hall.
