Following an enlightening tour of the cellars at the family-owned winery Cantine Giuseppe Apicella, you will settle in for a tasting of wines that best express the terroir. You may sample a glass of Tramonti Bianco with an intense scent of tropical fruits, a full-bodied Tramonti Rosso or a velvety Passito with fresh notes of pine needles. Locally sourced specialties such as salami, cheeses and fresh-baked bread will be served as accompaniments. A wonderfully scenic drive to the coast will bring you to the town of Amalfi, which clings to a steep cliff overlooking the sea. The original city actually lies somewhere offshore as it slid into the sea during the earthquake of 1343. While exploring, be sure to stop at St. Andrew Cathedral, a landmark that dominates the town.
