説明

Study the fascinating ruins of ancient Corinth and the dramatic Corinth Canal on this enlightening tour. In enthralling Corinth, discover remains that are an intriguing meld of a 6th-century BC wealthy Greek city and a 44 BC thriving Roman metropolis. You’ll view excavations such as a sacred spring with 5th-century BC lion-head spouts, a huge colonnaded marketplace, the seven remaining Doric columns of Apollo’s Temple and the Lechaion Road, formerly a main harbor thoroughfare. Learn that the apostle Saint Paul lived and preached to the Corinthians in this area for nearly two years, and see the platform, or bema, on which he stood trial. From a 200-foot-high bridge, you’ll view the breathtaking Corinth Canal, a four-mile-long feat of engineering that is only 70 feet wide and features sheer sides rising to 170 feet. Although the first attempt to connect the Aegean and the Ionian seas dates back to the 7th century BC, discover construction on the canal didn’t commence until 1881. You’ll long ponder these thought-provoking sites that reach back over two millennia.
