概要
Settle in for an immensely scenic coastal drive along the Saronic Gulf to the tip of Cape Sounion, where you will visit the Temple of Poseidon as a prelude to lunch. Built in the 5th century and dedicated to Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, the temple fittingly overlooks the water. More than a third of the original 34 Doric columns still stand on the marble base. As you will see, the views from this elevated perch are outstanding. Ancient landmarks are even more prevalent in Athens, none more iconic than the Acropolis, which you will see from below, a perspective that enhances the dramatic setting. Other ancient sites include the Panathenaic Stadium, which was built in 1896 for the first modern Olympic Games. It is the only stadium in the world constructed entirely with marble. The most poignant site may well be the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, especially during the changing of the guards.
