説明

Delve into ancient history by exploring the Old Town in Rhodes and the acropolis that crowns the whitewashed town of Lindos. The ruins of the acropolis stand atop a sheer cliff overlooking the sea, a setting that presents extraordinary views in every direction. It was built as a sanctuary to worship the goddess Athena. Rhodes’ medieval historic district is also architecturally important, so much so that UNESCO declared it a World Heritage site. You will enter Old Town through the 16th-century Gate of Amboise and soon reach the Palace of the Grand Masters. Although a freakish explosion in 1856 destroyed most of the original fortress, it has been painstakingly reconstructed and once again looks impenetrable. You will discover more about ancient Rhodes while browsing the Archaeological Museum and by meandering down the wonderfully atmospheric Street of the Knights. Be sure to notice the coats of arms that adorn many of the houses along the cobblestone street.
