Scandinavian Ports On Your Itinerary

Copenhagen offers the perfect mix of regal history, modern architecture and storybook scenery — it’s no wonder Danes rank among the world's most happy people. Among the places that make Copenhagen memorable is Frederiksborg Slot, the setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet. There’s also Rundetaarn, one of the oldest observatories in Europe, offering an incredible view of the entire city. Best of all, several of our voyages begin or end in Copenhagen, which is a wonderful opportunity to explore the city when the sun goes down.

Oslo, Norway’s cultural heart, captivates visitors with its mix of outdoor beauty and urban sophistication. The city is nestled between the Oslofjord and dense forests, making it ideal for nature lovers. Top attractions include the Viking Ship Museum, which displays well-preserved Viking vessels, and the strikingly modern Oslo Opera House, where visitors can walk on the rooftop for panoramic views. Plus, your ship is in port at the perfect time of year, when Oslo’s waterfront promenades and parks are the liveliest.

Stockholm, Sweden’s elegant capital, is built on 14 islands, giving it a distinctive maritime charm. A walk through the cobbled streets of Gamla Stan (the Old Town) reveals pastel-colored buildings and quaint squares. Stockholm's summer days are perfect for visiting the ABBA Museum and the Royal Palace or enjoying a boat tour around the city's islands and waterways.

Helsinki, Finland’s design-forward capital, is vibrant with unique architecture, seaside saunas and lush parks. Key sights include the impressive Rock Church, carved directly into the bedrock, and the bustling Market Square, where visitors can sample Finnish delicacies. In summer, Helsinki shines with art and music festivals, offering travelers a lively, immersive experience.

Explore Hidden Scandinavia

Beyond the big cities, there are hidden gems you can explore. Each season, Regent adds new ports of call that offer unique perspectives and access to extraordinary sites. Among them are two less-traveled European cities that allow our guests to experience the beauty and bounty of nature: Olden, Norway and Kemi, Finland.

Olden is enchanting for so many reasons. The small village has a population of approximately 500 people. Even with its miniscule size, you can still find cafes, grocery stores and shops in the center of town. Between steep mountains and roaring waterfalls, everywhere you look is magnificent. And then there’s the Briksdal Glacier. This famous glacier arm lies in beautiful surroundings between high peaks and roaring waterfalls, dropping almost 4,000 feet into the narrow Briksdal valley below. For a closer look, you can take a ‘Troll car’ safari, which are these charming open-air vehicles, through the national park, past thundering waterfalls to reach the glacier while taking in the most beautiful scenery in Norway.

Nestled in the heart of Finnish Lapland, Kemi will steal your heart. This magical coastal town offers a unique blend of Arctic beauty and Scandinavian charm, making it a must-visit destination. Kemi is home to SnowExperience365, a winter wonderland where most everything is made of snow and ice. So, even during the summer, you can wander in 23 degrees Fahrenheit. Blankets are available to keep you warm as you walk on the snow-covered floor. Every room is decorated with glistening furniture carved from thick blocks of ice, all of it made with seawater from the Gulf of Bothnia, most of it colorfully illuminated for dramatic effect. Illustrations of marine creatures are etched into the icy walls. The theme often changes, but it always revolves around winter activities. You will be offered a drink in the restaurant, but don’t worry about sitting on an ice-cold seat as they are covered with faux fur for comfort.

All-Inclusive Cruise to the Norwegian Fjords

Cruising the Norwegian fjords is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that should be on every traveler's must-visit list, especially aboard Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Witness lush coastlines, majestic mountains and stunning waterfalls that define Norway's natural beauty. As you sail Norway’s pristine coast, you will be able to witness several famous peaks, from UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord and Sognefjord to lesser-known gems, like Romsdalsfjord and Hjørundfjord.

What to Pack for Your Scandinavian Cruise

When packing for a Scandinavian cruise, it’s essential to prepare for varied weather, as the region can shift from sunny and mild to chilly and wet quickly. Layering is key — start with a moisture-wicking base layer, add insulating layers like sweaters or fleece, and top it off with a windproof and waterproof jacket. This setup will keep you comfortable whether you’re strolling through a sunny coastal town or sailing through misty fjords.

Since rain is always possible, waterproof clothing is a must, including a lightweight rain jacket and packable rain pants. Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes with good traction are essential for exploring cobbled city streets or hiking trails with uneven terrain. Don’t forget accessories like a warm hat, scarf and gloves, as even summer evenings can be cool.

Remember, one of the wonderful, included amenities for every guest is complimentary Valet Laundry Service, so you don’t have to overpack. Enjoy the luxury and convenience of freshly washed, carefully pressed and crisply folded laundry picked up from and delivered back to your suite daily throughout the duration of your voyage.

For wildlife enthusiasts, packing binoculars can make a big difference. Whether you’re spotting seabirds, seals, or possibly even whales from the ship’s deck, binoculars enhance the experience. Finally, a small daypack is handy for carrying essentials during shore excursions. However, if you are a guest of a Concierge Suite or higher category, you have use of in-suite binoculars, cashmere blankets and a canvas tote bag so that you can use the extra space in your suitcase for another pair of comfortable shoes.
