It features the only seawater pond in Tokyo which change levels with the tides and a teahouse on an island where visitors can enjoy the scenery. From 1704, when this teahouse was first built, the Shoguns, and other elites such as Imperial Court nobles, who never tired of the relaxed atmosphere and the wonderful view of the place, used it continuously.
Next, it’s on to Tokyo Tower, Japan’s second highest structure, which was built in 1958 as a symbol of Japan’s rebirth. After riding an elevator to the nearly 500-foot-high Grand Observation Platform, you will be treated to an astounding view of the city. If the sky is clear, you can see Mt. Fuji.
Following lunch at a local restaurant, you will be transferred to your Odawara hotel to relax at your leisure. A bountiful buffet dinner will be served at the hotel. However, the remainder of the day is yours to enjoy as you please before you spend the evening at the hotel.
DAY 2
Today, you will visit Hakone, a part of the Fuji National Park. Upon arriving at Sounzan (1-hour drive), you will board the Ropeway, a 30-minute aerial tram ride that affords you wonderful views of the Owakudani Valley. In time, you will stop at Lake Ashi for a scenic cruise. The crystal-clear lake was formed about 3,000 years ago in the caldera left after the volcanic eruption of Mount Hakone. If the conditions are ideal, as they often are, you will see Mt. Fuji and its inverted reflection on the water.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. On the return to the hotel, you will stop at Odawara Castle, which was originally built in the mid-15th century. The structure was destroyed in the latter half of the 19th century when political power changed from the Edo shogunate to the Meiji government, and the castle was condemned as the symbol of the samurai.
The castle that now stands is a reconstruction from 1960. However, the moat and stone walls are originals. The
castle is a three-tiered, five-storied donjon, and its top floor is an observatory. A traditional Japanese Kaiseki (multi course) dinner will be served at your hotel this evening.
DAY 3
After breakfast and checking out of the hotel, you will return to Tokyo. Back in the city you will visit the Asakusa (Senso-ji Temple) which was founded in the early 7th century. Weather permitting you will enter through a gate decorated with a huge red paper lantern.
The architecture is stunning, as this temple is the country’s oldest and one of the most revered.
Your tour also strolls down Nakamise-dori, known as the “Street of Inside Shops,” an alley lined with vendors selling traditional food, souvenirs and handmade crafts.
A traditional Japanese style BBQ lunch will be served before you drive to your hotel where the remainder of the day is at your leisure. Dinner is on your own
DAY 4
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel. Check out is at 11:00am. You will be transferred to the Narita or Haneda Airport per your flight details. Should you have a late flight, luggage storage is available at the hotel.
Note: the drive to the Narita Airport is approximately 1.5 – 2 hours from the hotel.
SPECIAL NOTES TO CONSIDER:

•Guests on group bookings are not eligible to earn “Hilton Honors Points” or receive Hilton Honors benefits.
•If you require special dietary accommodation for medical or religious reasons (not simply personal preference), please reach out to the Regent Reservations Team at least 95 days before your departure. DAY 1
Upon disembarking the ship in Tokyo, you will be met by your guide at the port and set out on a scenic drive to Oshino Hakkai, a captivating cluster of eight crystal-clear spring ponds designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fed by pure snowmelt from the slopes of majestic Mt. Fuji, these ponds were honored as one of Japan’s Best Water Sources in 1985. On clear days, marvel at breathtaking views of Mt. Fuji rising in the background—a truly unforgettable sight.
Next, savor a taste of Japan’s celebrated wine heritage in Yamanashi, the heartland and birthplace of Japanese winemaking. This renowned region produces about 30% of the country’s wine, thanks to its ideal climate and the signature Koshu grape. Explore a leading local winery, sample historical vintages, and enjoy a gourmet lunch at a local restaurant near the winery.
As evening falls, check in to a unique hotel that artfully combines Western comfort and traditional Japanese charm. At this traditional Japanese Ryokan which is located in the highlands at the foot of Mt. Fuji, enjoy spacious rooms with comfortable beds and unwind in private hot spring bath, a soothing way to complete your day of exploration.
Indulge in a delicious dinner at the hotel, reflecting on your remarkable journey through Japan’s picturesque heartland.
Notes: In keeping with Japanese custom, shoes are removed upon entering your room, enhancing the authentic cultural experience. Guests must be 20 years or older to enter the winery. Guests will be guided to the VIP room for a brief seminar (with English translation by the guide) and an exclusively arranged wine tasting including 3 kinds of wine. Shoes will need to be removed at the restaurant for lunch.
Luggage information: Since large pieces of luggage cannot be accommodated on the bullet train and there is no porter assistance at the train station, please prepare a carry-on size piece of luggage per person for Day’s 1-4. Excess luggage will be collected as soon as you disembark the ship and stored at your hotel in Tokyo where you will be reunited with it on Day 4. Please remember to label and lock any excess pieces to be stored and bring with you and valuables, medications and documents including your passport.
DAY 2
Following breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide and journey to Takeda Shrine in Kofu, a revered site steeped in samurai legend and spiritual significance. Established in 1919 on the historic grounds of the Takeda family’s residence, the shrine honors Takeda Shingen, Kofu’s most celebrated samurai. Wander through sacred spaces, discover fascinating relics, and visit the iconic “Shingen-ko’s Well” for an authentic glimpse into the storied lifestyle of this legendary clan.
Next make a brief stop at Lake Suwa—Nagano Prefecture’s sparkling gem, encircled by majestic mountains.
Take in the mesmerizing, mirrored vistas where peaks and sky reflect in tranquil waters, offering the perfect backdrop for photos and moments of serenity. At Lake Suwa Park’s Geyser Center, witness the dramatic eruption of the lakeside geyser, a spectacle just steps from the building. Relax and rejuvenate with a soothing foot bath on the first floor or immerse yourself in local culture with engaging exhibits upstairs.
Continue to the tranquil Daio Wasabi Farm, the largest in Japan, nestled amidst Nagano’s peaceful countryside. Stroll along scenic walking trails winding through vibrant wasabi fields and witness firsthand the fascinating process of cultivating this prized Japanese ingredient. Indulge your senses with an array of creative wasabi-inspired treats, including the must-try wasabi ice cream, available at charming on-site shops.
Savor a gourmet lunch at the Wasabi Farm, where fresh, local produce and succulent meats are artfully paired with the farm’s signature wasabi, offering a distinctive taste of Nagano’s culinary heritage.
From the Wasabi farm, transfer to your hotel. Indulge in a delicious dinner at the hotel, reflecting on your remarkable journey through Japan’s picturesque heartland.
Special Notes:
•As Daio Wasabi Farm is an active working farm, certain sections may occasionally be restricted due to harvesting, maintenance, or other operations. Depending on the season, access and visibility to some areas may be limited, and black sails or sunshades might be installed over the wasabi fields at various times of the year.
DAY 3
After breakfast at the hotel, begin your day with a visit to the iconic Matsumoto Castle, Japan’s oldest surviving six-story castle and a true architectural marvel. Built in 1594, this historic fortress impresses with its expansive moat, imposing stonework, and breathtaking backdrop of the Northern Alps. Wander through meticulously landscaped gardens and explore the castle’s remarkable wooden interiors, immersing yourself in centuries of samurai history and Japanese elegance.
After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the legendary Zenkoji Temple, a spiritual sanctuary that has stood for over 1,300 years, blending majestic Buddhist architecture with serene natural beauty. Marvel at the awe-inspiring main hall—an architectural masterpiece crafted from 60,000 pieces of wood and crowned with a cypress bark roof, now designated as a National Treasure. Venture into the inner chamber, stepping through a mysterious passage where you may discover the fabled hidden key—said to bestow enlightenment upon those who find it, offering a truly unique and spiritual experience.
Following your visit, proceed to your hotel in Nagano for dinner and overnight and a chance to reflect on the exceptional experiences and timeless beauty that define this extraordinary journey through the region.
Special Notes:
•To enter the inner chamber of Zenkoji, guests are required to remove their shoes and navigate a narrow staircase that leads into a dark, underground corridor.
•When visiting Matsumoto Castle, guests must take off their shoes at the entrance and place them in a provided bag, which they will carry throughout their visit inside. The main structure features roughly 140 steps to climb.
•The hotel in Nagano is not a luxury hotel but rooms will be clean and comfortable for your one-night stay.
DAY 4
After breakfast at the hotel, join your guide for a visit to the serene Ganshoin Temple, renowned for its breathtaking ceiling painting, a masterpiece of ukiyo-e art created by Hokusai himself. As you step inside, gaze upward to admire the vivid depiction of phoenixes soaring across the ceiling, an awe-inspiring highlight that encapsulates the temple’s spiritual and artistic significance.
Continue to the Hokusai Museum, dedicated to the legendary ukiyo-e master Katsushika Hokusai. Opened in 1976, this museum is a treasure trove of Hokusai’s iconic woodblock prints, including vibrant multi-colored Nishiki-e “brocade pictures” and intricate festival floats. Art enthusiasts and curious travelers alike will be captivated by the museum’s engaging exhibits, which reveal Hokusai’s innovative spirit and enduring influence on global art.
After lunch at a local restaurant, enjoy a tranquil stroll along Obuse-kurino Komachi, a charming path paved with chestnut wood. This enchanting walk immerses you in the local culture, as you discover quaint sweets shops offering delectable chestnut treats and meander through beautifully tended gardens. It’s the perfect opportunity to sample handmade confections and soak in the harmonious blend of nature and tradition that defines this unique neighborhood.
Next, travel to the bullet train station. Settle into your comfortable seat aboard the cutting-edge JR bullet train and marvel as you glide effortlessly through the Japanese countryside toward Tokyo—a scenic journey lasting approximately 1.5 hours, offering glimpses of picturesque landscapes along the way.
Once in Tokyo, check in to your hotel. The remainder of the evening is at your leisure and dinner is your own.
Note: Some of the gardens you will see with the signs “Welcome to My Garden” are private gardens – they are open to visitors, but it is asked that you keep talking volume at a lower level out of respect for the owners that may be home.
DAY 5
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out and transferring by private vehicle to either Narita or Haneda International Airports.
Your transfer time will be based on the flight details provided and relayed while you are on the program. Guests must check out by 12:00pm at the latest; however, if you have a late flight luggage storage will be available at the hotel and you can continue to the facilities until your transfer. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit the Meiji Shrine. Dedicated to the Emperor Meiji, the father of modern Japan, the beautiful shrine stands in a dense forest glade of some 120,000 trees of 365 different species, at the very heart of Tokyo. You can choose to either remain in Ginza and make your own way back to the hotel or return with the group.
The remainder of the day is at your leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.
DAY 3
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will begin yet another half-day tour of Tokyo, allowing you to see the city from a different perspective.
You will first journey to the Asakusa area – part of Tokyo’s Old Town. Visit the Asakusa Senso-ji Temple, which was founded in the early 7th century. Weather permitting, you will enter through a gate decorated with a huge red paper lantern to view the shrine. The architecture is stunning, as this temple is the country’s oldest and one of the most revered. One of the highlights is a walk down Nakamise-dori, known as the “Street of Inside Shops,” an alley lined with vendors selling traditional food, souvenirs, and handmade crafts.
Stop for photos at the Imperial Palace Plaza (no interior visit), where Japan’s Emperor and Empress reside. Surrounded by a moat, the palace was formerly known as Edo Castle, and samurai warriors lived there in the 17th through 19th centuries. In the large plaza in front of the palace, you can view the famed Nijubashi—two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The stone bridge in front is called Meganebashi (Eyeglass Bridge) for its looks.
You can choose to either remain in the area and make your own way back to the hotel or return with the group.
The remainder of the day is at your leisure with lunch and dinner on your own.

•Guests with wheelchairs or scooters must advise in advance and have someone traveling with them to push, lift and/or carry these items as drivers and guides will not be able to assist. By law guests are not permitted to remain in the tour coaches at the various stops.
