Make a pilgrimage to one of Ireland’s most esteemed whiskey distilleries and enjoy a panoramic orientation tour of Cork. A riverfront city of steeples and bridges, Cork is Ireland’s second largest city yet retains much of its pleasant country-town charm. It’s also a vibrant university town, brimming with culture, trendy restaurants and historic highlights; you’ll see triple-spired St. Fin Barre’s Cathedral, the Old Courthouse, City Hall, and the famous Bells of Shandon atop St Anne’s church. But the true highlight of this excursion awaits some 30 minutes to the east in a town called Midleton, where the Jameson Distillery has been bottling delicious whiskey since the early 1800s. Your guided tour of their classic Old Distillery, now a museum known as the Jameson Experience, includes an audio-visual presentation and a walk right into the heart of whiskey-making tradition as you wander this beautifully restored complex. Along the way, you’ll encounter a 32,000-gallon copper still, the world’s largest, and a fully-operational water wheel. Needless to say, you’ll also be invited to relax in a traditional Irish pub setting as you sample the Jameson wares. Sláinte!
