While giving a nod to its chocolate, landmarks and lace, this tour celebrates Bruges’ most liquid asset: its beers. Belgium is a country renowned for its beer – all 450-plus varieties of it. Far more than a simple beverage, beer and the culture of making and drinking of it is deeply woven into the national character – and has even been recognized by UNESCO for inclusion on their “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” list. With its widely varying landscape, Belgium’s array of styles and flavors is vast – from pale lagers to amber ales, lambics, Flemish red ales, sour brown ales, stouts and more. On this tour, you’ll attend a seminar at a Bruges café and taste samples of four different beers. You and your guide will also walk the town, paying appropriate homage to key landmarks in this city that never fully exited the medieval era. Rambling along twisting cobblestone streets, you’ll pass fabulously preserved Brick Gothic buildings and tree-lined canals – and catch must-sees like opulent Town Hall, the Chapel of the Holy Blood and the carillon-topped Belfry Tower in Markt square. You’ll also have ample free time to browse the shops for perfect Bruges mementos.
