Enjoy a performance of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s classical music and other familiar classical masterpieces, at a historical farm just outside the city limits. The family-owned farm Øvre-Eide overlooks a placid lake in a bucolic setting that couldn’t be more inviting. After a brief but enlightening tour, you will settle in for the concert of Grieg’s most popular compositions. One of the world’s leading Romantic Era composers, Grieg was born in Bergen and died there at the age of 64. His music is rooted in the folk traditions of Norway and the concert musicians and other familiar classical masterpieces, will be dressed in traditional national costumes that enhance that connection. Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen asked Grieg to compose the music for his play “Peer Gynt” in 1874, parts of which became Grieg’s most beloved and instantly recognized works. Although the exact pieces for the concert vary, they will all feature Grieg’s distinctive lyricism, daring harmonies and the influence of Norwegian folk music.
