Standing on Giske, known as the Saga Island, you’ll be in the domain of the great (so great no horse could carry him!) Viking King ""Rollo.”Born here, his action-packed life included conquering Norway in 911, ruling the French region of Normandy, and being is the ancestor of William the Conqueror, sire to the English royal family. After exploring his island – with a stop to admire marble Giske Chapel, dating from 1135, you’ll cross by tunnel to steeply mountainous Godoy Island for a stroll through the remote fishing village of Alnes, its red and white striped lighthouse bravely facing down the open Atlantic.
