Discover the immense beauty of the Tórshavn area while driving through Streymoy Island and its picturesque North Valley. For the ultimate view of Tórshavn, the winsome capital of the Faroe Islands, you will pause at a lookout on the outskirts of town. From this vantage point, you can easily make out the historical Tinganes district and the rocky peninsula where the parliament met for more than 1,000 years. The countryside will soon become more rural, giving way to open pastures with grazing sheep. Be sure to notice the stone cairns stacked along the footpaths that mark the way between villages. They date to ancient times. You will pause again for photos of the beautiful North Valley before entering an even more dramatic landscape known for its fjords. As wild as the terrain is at times, modern technology has still made its mark, as you will discover while driving through a tunnel nearly two miles long.
