Travel through the immensely picturesque countryside of Streymoy Island with enlightening stops to view the highlights in the villages of Kollafjördur and Saksun. You will follow a circuitous route through a volcanically formed landscape that couldn’t be more naturally beautiful. Upon reaching Kollafjördur, you will visit a church constructed in 1837 in the heart of town. Like many of the buildings from that time period, it features a grass roof, black-tarred wood, a white stone foundation and a modest clocktower. To reach remote Saksun, you will follow a stream deep into the mountains. Only a few dozen people live there and the main attraction is its gorgeous setting, as Saksun sits in a natural amphitheater overlooking the tidal lagoon. While browsing a farmhouse from the Middles Ages, you will gain an understanding of early life there. More spectacular mountain and fjord views will await you before pausing once again to view Tórshavn from a scenic overlook.
