Take in the natural beauty of Streymoy Island from elevated viewpoints and by traveling into the less-populated areas where the terrain has changed little over the centuries. Although you will drive through historical Tinganes, where the parliament met for more than 1,000 years, and pause at a lookout above Tórshavn harbor, most of this excursion celebrates nature. Not far from town, you can still see the ancient stone cairns that mark the footpaths between villages, a reminder that time has stood still throughout much of the Faroe Islands. Another brief stop for photos will be made in Nordradalur Valley, from which you can see Koltur Island on a clear day. Deeper in the valley, you will be treated to spectacular views of the fjords below and hand-hewn stone salmon ladders that lead to Lake Leynar.
