概要
Follow a relatively flat trail that Napoleon’s troops supposedly created along a beautiful limestone plateau known as The Karst and then dine at a farmhouse in the countryside. The walk will begin in Opicina, a village close to the Slovenian border, and continue through forests and open areas that offer panoramic views of the Gulf of Trieste. Stops will be made along the way to gaze out over the gorgeous sea and Miramare Castle, which perches on a rocky spur that juts into the gulf. Austrian archduke Ferdinand built the 19th-century castle with a mix of Gothic, medieval and Renaissance elements. Once you settle in at a nearby osmiza, one of many family-owned farmhouse taverns scattered about The Karst, you will be served a multi-course lunch of local dishes. They may include spinach crêpes, sausage ragout and pork shoulder roasted in a wood oven.
