Become immersed in the life of famed Finnish composer Jean Sibelius by visiting his former residence and enjoying a private concert of his music. Sibelius chose a home with a rural setting overlooking Lake Tuusula to provide the serenity and views he needed to be creative. It worked. Sibelius was immensely productive during the more than 50 years that he lived there, composing more than 300 works in the first 20 years. You will see the upstairs study where he wrote, the piano where Sibelius tried out his new compositions and the home’s massive green-brick fireplace, which seems entirely out of place. You can then meander through the gardens and snack on canapés before continuing on to a nearby auditorium. After settling in, you will hear an award-winning duo play several of Sibelius’ masterpieces on violin and grand piano. The concert should be all the more meaningful considering your new and deeper understanding of Sibelius.
