Behold the distinctive Art Nouveau architecture that is synonymous with Helsinki and sample a selection of Finnish whiskies renowned for their characteristics. Many of these architecturally important buildings – which number more than 500 – lie within Katajanokka, an island neighborhood that you will explore on foot. Walking allows you to see the buildings up close and for the guide to easily point out and describe the features. In Finland, the Art Nouveau style, also known as Jugendstil, tends to be simpler than in central Europe. Even so, the elements are wonderfully fluid and often feature imagery that is geometrical or inspired by nature. As you will see, the Helsinki Central Railway Station is a fine example. The city has also developed its own style of premium whisky, which you will taste after touring the eco-friendly Helsinki Distilling Company. The samples may include rye whisky, a single malt and the only corn whisky made in Finland.
