Chef Market Tour & Nordic Cooking Class Shore Excursion in Helsinki, Finland

Your day begins meeting your Chef in The Culinary Arts Kitchen and embarking on a brief but scenic drive through Helsinki to the lively Kauppahallo (covered) and Kauppatori (open) markets. Here you’ll be introduced to cured moose meats, reindeer sausage, cured fish, the savory Lapland cheeses, seasonal berries and vegetables. You'll stop at some of our chefs' favorite stalls and sample Finnish treasures like smoked salmon and salted licorice.

After orientation, you'll set out with a partner to gather assigned ingredients that will later be used during the hands-on cooking class. Of course, you’ll have time to taste local specialties along the way.

Following your morning in the market, relax on a brief panoramic bus ride around the small city of Helsinki. If time permits, you’ll visit a second market, Hakaniemi, where the local chefs shop.

Returning to the ship, you'll re-group in The Culinary Arts Kitchen for a private cooking class. During that time, you'll use your ingredients to make salmon gravlax, the cornerstone of Nordic cuisine while tasting Findlandia vodka in a local drink such as salmaikkikossu (with salted licorice) or fisu, with Fisherman's Friend pastilles. This festive lunch is the perfect way to celebrate ‘living like a local’ in Helsinki!
