Island Discovery Shore Excursion in Papeete, French Polynesia
Heading toward Tahiti's east coast, you’ll first visit the James Norman Hall House—which displays the daily environment of this poet and writer of contemporary American literature. Continuing on, you’ll arrive at Matavai Bay and Point Venus, the historic landing site for most European discoverers and evangelists. It boasts the island's only lighthouse, which was built in 1867.
A scenic drive delivers you down the south coast of the island, along the steep coastline until you reach the isthmus of Taravao that links Little Tahiti, or Tahiti Nui, and Small Tahiti, or Tahiti Iti. Here you’ll visit the gardens of a private home once owned and originally built by the English writer and former missionary Robert Keabel in the late 1920's. The present owners will welcome you for a guided visit of the splendid gardens and treat you with a refreshment.
You’ll then enjoy a buffet style lunch at the Gauguin Restaurant before making a refreshing stop at the Maraa Grottoes. As you take the short walk on a lush trail, you’ll come across the largest underwater cave in Tahiti. It’s said that Paul Gauguin enjoyed the waters here, so those interested in his work will be particularly appreciative of the natural features and atmosphere that inspired his later pieces.
次の目的地Arahurahu Marae, situated in a picturesque valley. A short walk takes you to this quiet sacred site, which served both religious and social purposes in pre-Christian Polynesian societies.
