フィリピンの首都であるマニラはスペイン王フェリペ2世によって設立されました。その後、スペインはオランダ、ポルトガル、中国などがフィリピンに侵入するのを防いできました。七年戦争中に、イギリスがマニラを占領しましたが、1763年にスペインへの返還に同意しました。第二次世界大戦中、1942年の侵略により日本の統治下となりましたが、最終的に米国が島を奪還し、フィリピンに返還しました。1946年、この国は完全な独立を勝ち取りました。
