ヒオスは、チューインガムについて学びたい方にぴったりの場所です。この島はコショウボクから採れる樹液マスティックの生産というユニークな形で世界的に有名になりました。（コショウボクの学名pistacia lentiscusをウーゾを何杯か飲んだ後に10回早口で言ってみましょう。）マスティックはスパイスとみなされ、チューインガムの材料、料理の味付け、医薬品の添加剤として使われています。もちろん、ヒオスの魅力はガムだけではありません。寄港地ヒオスタウンには複数のミュージアム、数多くのレストランが揃っています。また、街の外にあるチャーミングな村や、黒い小石が敷き詰められたエンポリオス マヴロス ヤロスなど日差しのまぶしいビーチまで足を延ばすのも簡単です。
